Herbalist Nguyen Huu Tong - Our ancestor - All life for herbal medicine
Examining soil and seeking lost traditional cures, herbalist Nguyen Huu Tong has spent his whole life seeking and preserving folk remedies.
Mr.Tong is over 70 years old and lives in Yen Son Hamlet, Ba Vi District, Hanoi. When he was young, he was weak. His parents took him to Yen Tu Pagoda for treatment.
After 1984, Mr. Tong studied at medical school. During his studies, his only concern was that Vietnam did not apply traditional treatments, especially those by famous herbalist Hai Thuong Lan Ong (in the 18th century). Mr.Tong is noted for developing Tue Tinh’s herbal remedies (Tue Tinh was a famous herbalist born in 1330, and is considered the father of Vietnamese herbal medicine). Unfortunately, the secret remedy for curing body odor permanently will not be passed on to anyone else because Mr. Tong only has two daughters (secret remedy is allowed to pass on to son only).

Since the 1990s, Chinese herbal medicine has been developed in Vietnam. Mr. Tong decided to go to China and learnt that most Chinese people chose traditional medicine because of their safety and effectiveness.
In 1995, he came back to Vietnam and continued completing his research “Preserving and developing herbs for medicine.” After retiring, he went to Sapa (Lao Cai Province), Yen Lap (Phu Tho Province) and the Hoang Lien Son Range where ethnic minorities live to study their traditional herbs and remedies. He asked them to share their folk treatment experiences.
In 2009, Tong established Tue Tinh Duong, an ecological area in Ba Vi District, Hanoi. The reason he chose Ba Vi is that it is close to the preserve where a variety of different herbs are grown, and many local people use herbal medicines and have great knowledge on the subject. In the future, he intends to develop this area into a treatment center.
Most of our rare and unusual ingredients are found here, especially the Hoang Lien Son Range. Some of them are being grown and harvested in our material area. More than 5 thousand Vietnamese and foreigners have been cured permanently from body odor thanks to these rare and secret ingredients.
